Cyber Security Analyst Journey — Day 9: Expanding Skills in Help Desk Labs, Linux, and Web Development 🌐🔒

Hello everyone! 👋 Another productive day in my cybersecurity journey is in the books. From enhancing my home lab setup to advancing in Linux fundamentals and making significant progress on my personal website, today was a mix of technical growth and creative accomplishments. Let’s dive into the details! 💪✨

Help Desk Lab: Advancing with Windows Server 2016 🖥️🔧

I continued working on my Help Desk lab using Windows Server 2016, pushing further into system administration and Active Directory (AD) management.

What I Accomplished:

  • Created a separate Windows 10 virtual machine specifically for the HR department and successfully connected it to the server.
  • Installed RSAT (Remote Server Administration Tools) on the previously created Help Desk virtual machine.
  • Configured and managed Organizational Units (OUs) for both HR and the Help Desk using Group Policy Management.

Why It Matters: These tasks helped deepen my understanding of managing Active Directory environments and applying Group Policies. It’s a crucial skill set for any cybersecurity analyst, especially in roles focusing on system security and user access management.

Personal Website: Almost Ready to Launch! 🌐🌟

Big progress today! I finalized the overall structure and functionality of my personal website and completed the domain registration process.

Highlights:

  • The website is now fully operational, with only minor tweaks and refinements left to perfect.
  • It will soon serve as a hub for my portfolio, blog posts, and cybersecurity projects.

Exciting Milestone: I’m eager to share it with everyone in the near future — stay tuned! 🚀✨

TryHackMe: Progress in Linux Fundamentals 🐧📚

I also made significant strides on TryHackMe, completing the Linux Fundamentals 2 room.

Key Learnings:

  • Refreshed my knowledge of using SSH, the man command, and ls for navigation.
  • Practiced creating files and directories, managing permissions, and handling user settings.
  • Even though these were familiar topics, revisiting them solidified my understanding and improved my command-line efficiency.

Why It’s Valuable: Strong Linux skills are a must-have in the cybersecurity field, and continuous practice keeps my skills sharp for real-world applications.

Reflections and Next Steps 🌙✨

Today’s journey reinforced my knowledge of foundational concepts and helped me progress in key projects. By balancing technical tasks with creative endeavours like my website, I’m shaping a well-rounded skill set that aligns with my goals as a cybersecurity professional.

Can’t wait to tackle more challenges tomorrow and share my progress with you all! 🔔
